Attack and Sink a Sailboat with Five on Board, Many Miles from the Coast, Orcas Attack

A sailboat with five passengers on board was attacked and destroyed by a pod of orcas off the coast of Portugal.

Mammals attacked from a distance of six miles off the coast of Sines, according to a Portuguese Navy statement.

The boat began to sink due to its extensive damage. A neighbouring fishing boat was able to rescue the five members of the crew.

Injuries have not been recorded in connection with this occurrence.

In the early hours of the morning, the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center in Lisbon was informed of the situation.

As a result of the inquisitive habit of young orcas, who are drawn to the moving and loud vessel features, such as rudders and propellers, interaction with these creatures happens often, according to the navy.
