The fast-food giant's new version of an old favourite might be a hit.Fast-food companies strive to attract customers by developing a must-have menu item. Such occurrences are inexplicable.

Starbucks Report (SBUX) Unicorn Frappuccino became a must-have item because it was colourful, distinctive, and customers of all ages eager to try it.

It's rare for a coffee business to have a product that youngsters insist their parents buy. People waited in line for a Popeye's chicken sandwich, which wasn't remarkable.

Now, Restaurant Brands International's (QSR) Burger King encourages customers to try an alternative to french fries, a staple on McDonald's menu.

The third-ranked burger chain has tried non-french-fry sides. The chain has provided mozzarella sticks and Mac 'n Cheetos to take customers from McDonald's fries.

Burger King has given up on reformulating and marketing their fries as better than McDonald's, unlike Wendy's. Offering something else may be a better strategy.
