Rains hit the capital and surrounding areas; monsoon looms.

The national capital woke up to rain Thursday morning. Noida saw gloomy clouds, lightning, and rains this morning throughout Delhi-NCR.

This comes after Delhi had a hard time with the hot weather on Wednesday, even though the weather office said there would be light rain overnight.

The India Meteorological Department said on Wednesday that the monsoon is likely to hit the national capital on Thursday or Friday.

IMD's orange advisory implies light rain on June 30. The weather office predicts 33 to 34 degrees Celsius on July 1.

The onset of the southwest monsoon at the nation's capital typically takes place on June 27.
