Dodgers trade lefty reliever for outfield prospect

The Dodgers traded Garrett Cleavinger to the Rays for a minor league outfielder. Cleavinger pitched 4.1 innings for the Dodgers and allowed 5 earned runs.

This deal clears a roster slot. With Walker Buehler and Dustin May returning from injury, the Dodgers need to clear roster space. Getting Cleavinger off the 40-man will ease those returns.

Cleavinger has been lighted up after a great 2021 season. His ERA+ in four outings is 43.
The Dodgers obtain 18-year-old outfielder German Tapia from the Rays.

He's batting effectively for the Rays' Dominican Summer League team. He's hit.329 with two homers in 26 games.
