Eric Hosmer Refuses Nationals

Eric Hosmer, first baseman for the San Diego Padres, has turned down an offer to be traded to the Washington Nationals as part of the transaction that will bring outfielder Juan Soto to the Padres.

As a result of exercising his no-trade clause, Hosmer will now remain in San Diego for the foreseeable future.

However, it is currently unknown whether or not first baseman Josh Bell will be included in the trade from Washington in exchange for Soto. On Tuesday, Soto will formally start

his career with the Padres, regardless of the outcome. Stay tuned for the remaining information as it becomes available.

Details forthcoming. The Padres are looking to trade Hosmer to stay under the luxury tax threshold after signing Soto.

Hosmer is still with the Friars, but he might be traded before Tuesday's deadline. He's 32. 2022 stats: 272/.336/.391, 8 HR, 40 RBI, 32 R.
