Kentucky floods, which have already claimed the lives of eight people

Are anticipated to see "double-digit fatalities," according to the state's governor.

More than a dozen people have been confirmed dead, and authorities are concerned that the toll could rise after rain lashed the eastern section of Kentucky.

After an estimated 8 to 12 inches of rain fell overnight, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear stated there are still unaccounted for persons.

As far as flooding disasters in Kentucky go, this is the worst I've ever seen." ""NBC Nightly News" presenter Lester Holt spoke with Beshear on Thursday night.

"It seems to have destroyed hundreds of residences, if not thousands. Some of our counties are completely submerged.

 We're going to lose more than a dozen people in this. There have already been eight deaths that I'm aware of, but I'm certain there are many more."
