MLB player traded, forced to decide on medical care

A Major League Baseball player who has not received the COVID-19 vaccine must now decide whether to receive it or not.

Minutes before the trade deadline on Tuesday, the Kansas City Royals dealt second baseman and outfielder Whit Merrifield to the Toronto Blue Jays. 

Merrifield, who is still a member of the Royals, missed a recent trip to Toronto because of his immunisation status. 

But going forward, if he wants to play any games in Canada, he will have to get the shot.

Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins told ESPN, unwilling to speak further, "We'll let him work through that with his family." We believed that we had improved a really excellent team today.

In response to a question regarding his refusal to receive the vaccine and how this has prevented him from playing in Canada, Merrifield said
