Police fire 6 and kill 1 in DC

Six men were shot in northeast D.C. on Monday, and one died.
"A large number of people were in the area when the bullets rang out," MPD Chief Robert Contee told reporters.

"We don't know why the shots were fired at this point."
Police don't know if the victims knew each other or if this shooting is related to prior city events

Contee said the "common denominator" is "illegal guns in the hands of people who shouldn't have them"
ATF Washington Field Division assisted with the investigation.

This is the sixth mass shooting in 2022, according to the D.C. Police Union.
Contee told reporters he shares the community's frustration over violent crime. "Sad and angry

I'm angry that residents experienced this tonight. The inhabitants deserved better "saying "Their communities didn't deserve gunfire.

I'm sad because of the city's investments in violence prevention."
"Our communities have lost their humanity. So sad "Add Contee.
