Six men were shot in northeast D.C. on Monday, and one died.
"A large number of people were in the area when the bullets rang out," MPD Chief Robert Contee told reporters.
"We don't know why the shots were fired at this point."
Police don't know if the victims knew each other or if this shooting is related to prior city events
Contee said the "common denominator" is "illegal guns in the hands of people who shouldn't have them"
ATF Washington Field Division assisted with the investigation.
