Liz Truss accused Vladimir Putin of keeping the world hostage over food when asked whether she supported removing sanctions in return for Ukrainian grain shipments.
"It's horrible that Putin is holding the globe hostage by weaponizing hunger among the world's poor.
"We can't let something like this happen. Putin needs to stop stopping grain from going to Ukraine."
Interfax reported Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko as saying Moscow would allow food-carrying boats to leave Ukraine if sanctions were relaxed.
Western nations have coordinated sanctions against Russia's enterprises, media outlets, businesspeople, and politicians over the Ukrainian conflict.
"We can't have any kind of appeasement or lifting of sanctions, because that will only make Putin stronger in the long run," Truss said.
