Saints cut TE after signing veteran

Wednesday, the Saints cut one tight end and signed another.
Brandon Dillon was released to make room for Chris Herndon, according to Saints News Network's John Hendrix.

Dillon joined the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2019. In five games over three years, he caught one pass for 6 yards.

Last season, he had 22 special-teams snaps a game. He spent much of his time on the practise squad. The Jets added Dillon to their practise squad in 2021 but dropped him following the NFL Draft.

Herndon caught little passes for the Vikings while playing 16 games. In 17 percent of the offense's snaps, he caught four of seven targets for 40 yards and a score.

In 2018, Herndon had 502 receiving yards and four touchdowns with the Jets. The 2020 fourth-rounder scored three times.
Herndon may play for a club with no apparent tight end starter.

Adam Trautman may have a larger role in his third season, and Nick Vannett will return for his second. Taysom Hill will also play tight end for the Saints.
