Telstra boosts phone prices, Optus may follow!

Telstra will boost monthly mobile rates by 4 to 5% in July as part of an inflation-based pricing review, a pattern Optus is expected to follow.

Analysts don't anticipate TPG Telecom will follow following because of its modest Vodafone market share and regulatory assessments.

Telstra announced pricing rises this week, adding $3 to its $55 basic and $65 essential monthly plans and $4 to its $85 premium tier.

The telecom will examine pricing again next year using the March quarter CPI.

"Like any business, we face inflation pressures, and an annual CPI-aligned increase lets us keep up with the latest economic situation.

So we can keep focusing on what's important, like giving our customers the best mobile network in Australia."
